Sprinklers on the football field

I ran across something I thought was strange the other while watching the Cerritos College football team practice the synthetic turf on the football field actually gets watered.

Not watered in that sense most would water because well that would just be stupid, watering plastic and rubber.

It was to cool off the turf the team plays on and head coach Frank Mazzotta said that it also severs another useful purpose.

He said that it helps clean the field.

I guess this all makes sense the field that has rubber underneath it would get hot and all the player sweating and rolling around would get it dirty.

But, wouldn’t natural grass stay cooler and it is already full of dirt so there would be no need to wash it down.

Don’t get me wrong I understand why the synthetic used at the football is better in some ways.

Players don’t get injured as much and it last longer than grass.

Maybe I’m selfish because I like to see football on grass.

Watching a game when it’s raining and the field muddy, players are slipping around, balls popping loose every time someone is hit hard. Now that’s football to me.

That’s me be selfish and I’m not the one that has to go out there everyday Saturday and play the game.
